DRT got off to great start, with a team victory! Andy Messer and Don Galligher won the first running of the Sub 9 Death March, ticking off all the checkpoints of this unusual and unique event in a winning time of 21minutes(after subtracting time bonuses). There were a 100 teams, and the sunshine and great weather made for an excellent day on the bike. The route they chose took them thru the Hoosier National Forest's most scenic trails and gravel roads, for a total distance of 46 miles, with an actual ride time of about 3:30. "This was a fun and well produced event, looking forward to doing it again next year!"
On the road Derek Elliot took on the Lexington Crit. Derek reported:
"In Cat 5, I made got a solo break to stick on what I thought was 2 laps to go. But it was really 3 to go. I stayed out as long as I could, but was caught on the final lap (with my heart rate at 194 - its never been that high. ouch.). I was able to recover enough to sprint for 18th.
I had about 40 minutes to recover before the start of Cat 4/5. I was pretty tired and just sat in the pack. I started moving up front with 3 to go, and on the start of the final lap was in the top 10. On the final lap I got shuffled back to about 20th but was able to weave my way through for 5th in the sprint.
Overall, a great day of racing."
Great job to all!
