Winona Lake Trail: Warsaw, IN ** Onsite camping: Yes, primitive only ** Directions: From 30 at Warsaw take Center St. west to Argonne Rd. Turn left (south) onto Argonne Rd. and continue to its end at Winona Rd. Go through the light at Winona Rd. onto Park Ave., which runs alongside the lake. Continue south on Park Ave. until turning left (east) onto Boys City Dr. Follow Boys City Dr., crossing a bridge at a small creek, to the roads end at the entrance to Chicago Boys Club property. However, you should park at the Winona Lake Park parking lot and ride approx. 1/4 mile to the trailhead. View Larger Map Length: Approx. 10 miles Trail Type: Single track Skill Level: Beginner to Advanced (depending on chosen trail) Trail Description: There are a variety of trails through diverse terrain, some smooth and flat with wide turns, and some with steep downhills and tight turns. The trails are full of logs, rocks, stumps and roots. You'll also find water crossing, a ramp over a small ravine (on the east side of the creek) and a suspended bridge that can be slippery when wet. There's a side trail on the east side of the creek that reads "CAUTION", and it's there for a reason. The trail is really difficult. Also, the loop trail on the east side of the creek is meant to be ridden by following the arrows clockwise. Wayne, go east/southeast on Goshen Rd./Ave. and continue southeast to Sherman Blvd. Turn left (north) onto Sherman Blvd. (following signs for Ft. Wayne Children's Zoo), then turn left onto Park Dr. at J.B. Franke Park sign (before zoo) and follow the road to the Nature Center. Or park at the BMX track for the trails behind it. Length: Approx. 6-15 miles Trail Type: Single track Skill Level: Intermediate Trail Description: There are a variety of trails throughout the rolling wooded terrain in this 280 acre park. The intertwining trails are twisty, turny and challenging, including 1 to 2 miles of short climbs, some steep climbs and ascents, and some fun along the streambed. One trail goes along a cliff by the river, so be careful not to fall in. |
