USGP Derby City Cup Results
|
| Written by Don G. |
| This weekend was the USGP opener in Louisville KY. Team DRT took 6 athletes to contest several different categories against the best CX racers the country has to offer. In the cat 2-3 race we had Andy Messer, Don Galligher, Zach Edwards, and Ryan Myers. IN the cat 4 race WE had Kyle Thomas, and in the Pro women, we were represented by Nicole Borem. Kyle Thomas came from a less than stellar start to take fifth place on saturday and improved on that to make the podium on Sunday taking 2nd. IN the Cat 2-3 race DRT got the number 1 & 2 call up with Andy "ATM" Messer and Zach "ZED" Edwards on the front row of 80 racers, Ryan Myers in the 2nd Row, and Don G. in The 7th Row, we quickly got togther for a team meeting at the front of the race, in what I believe the announcer called "a show of DRT dominance". We controlled the race and took away first with ATM, 2nd with Don G., 4th with Ryan Myers, and 6th with Zach Edwards. Sunday was more of the same, although the difference was that the pace was higher, and the racing much tighter. DRT once again gathered in the front group, however it was a hard fought tactical battle to get similar results as the day before. Don G and ATM attacked and countered until the lead group was only 3, and with a 2 on one, Don G lead it out, and held on for the win, while ATM moved up to 2nd, Ryan Dropped his breakaway companion Taking 4th and Zach fought in for 8th. In the pro womens race Nicole Borem lined up to test her legs against the heavy hitters. after a blistering fast start she settled into a group that comprised 18th-22nd and battled the entire race to take 21st in her first UCI pro race! Sunday was more of the saem with Georgia Gould and Katrina Nash making the pace at the front, Nicole fought throughout to take home 24th. Overall this was great showing for DRT as a team, the athletes that entrust their fitness to DRT guidance, and for those that support us. I had too much fun racing and hanging with the guys and gals on the team, can't wait til we can do it again! see you all at CX world cup on Tuesday at the fortwayne outfitters at 5:30 and back again wednesday for skills work @ 5:00

I have had enough interest, so heres the scoop:
CX Practice Race
September 7th (Sunday) @ 1:00 P.m. we will meet at Memorial Park By the main pavilion. This is an informal, free practice event. We will meet ready to go(ride) at 1:00, do 3 laps to warm-up and identify the course, split into two groups A/B and race for 40 minutes plus 2 laps. We will have 2 barriers, and 1 run-up section. This is agreat time shake down race equipment, practice technique, and get some race laps under your belt before the start of CX season on September 14th.
If you have never done a Cxrace this is agreat non-threatening way to be introduced to what real CX racing is like. Mountain bikes and road bikes welcome, but a road bike will be challenging on this course.
Whats the course like: 80% grass, 20% paved, some rolling terrain, with one gradual 1/4mile hill, 3 small sand pits, some off-camber, twisiting turns, fast staright down hills, short power uphills, one man made barrier section (2 barriers) and one barrier with a steep hill immediately after. (this is another chance to run).
So in summary this is a free informal show n go type practice for Cxracing abilities.
